The Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) has contributed £2.35 million (approximately 275.4 million rubles) to the treasury of the Channel Island of Alderney for the year 2023. This marks a 27% increase, or £636,000 (about 74.5 million rubles), compared to 2022.
From these funds, the States of Alderney allocated £1.85 million (around 216.8 million rubles) for capital expenditures. Additionally, just over £496,000 (approximately 58.1 million rubles) was directed to Alderney eGambling Limited (AeGL), a company owned by the council that handles licensing matters within the jurisdiction.
Nigel Woot, chair of the Policy and Finance Committee, noted that the island has more than halved its budget deficit to £222,000 (26 million rubles), which was primarily driven by expenses in the primary healthcare sector in 2022. Woot stated, "We are in a sound financial position and continue to seek new revenue streams. We must also keep improving efficiency wherever possible while ensuring that funding is available for staff to have adequate resources to provide high-quality services to the community."
The Alderney Gambling Control Commission was established in 2000 and is responsible for effective and reliable regulation of gambling activities in accordance with international standards. The commission operates on behalf of the States of Alderney but maintains its status as an independent and non-political body.
In January 2024, the AGCC extended its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), an agreement that has been in place since 2013, outlining cooperation between the two commissions.
It is also worth noting that operators in Curacao have been granted an additional month to submit applications for gambling licenses.
