The British publication Marketing Week has released the findings of a study revealing that the gambling industry was the highest-paying sector for marketers in 2022. In contrast, those working in charitable or non-profit organizations earned the lowest average salaries.
The research, titled "Careers and Salaries in 2022," conducted by experts at Marketing Week, also highlighted that the gaming sector is among the most lucrative for marketing professionals. These conclusions were drawn from an analysis of 24 different business sectors.
Marketers in the gaming and gambling industries earned an average of £66,749. They were followed by the travel and transportation sectors at £64,759, and consumer electronics at £64,478.
On the other end of the spectrum, marketers in charitable or non-profit sectors received the lowest average salary of £45,804. This was followed by the consumer goods industry at £49,213, and retail and wholesale trade, as well as e-commerce, at £50,921.
The average salary figures in the Marketing Week study were calculated based on a survey of full-time respondents (working 35+ hours a week). Only base annual salaries were included, excluding any additional payments such as bonuses.
In addition to the eye-catching revelation about the profitability of the gambling sector for marketers, the study uncovered several other surprises. It found that the highest-paying industry for women is finance, with an average salary of £59,062, while the lowest-paying sector is charitable and non-profit, at £40,406. For male marketers, the automotive industry offers the highest pay at £77,592, while the lowest salaries are found in the consumer goods sector at £46,775.
The study also indicates a range of salary growth in marketing as individuals advance in their careers. Overall, salaries range from £29,600 for entry-level positions to £115,400 for directors.
It is worth noting that live gaming has contributed to a 69% increase in revenue for Evolution.
