Tech giant Google is set to introduce a new feature in its advertising settings that will allow users to regulate the amount of gambling-related ads they encounter while using the company's products.
In a statement, the corporation revealed that the activation process for this feature was initiated following feedback from users who expressed a desire to limit ads on certain "sensitive" topics. In addition to gambling, users will also have the option to reduce the number of alcohol-related advertisements.
Another feature being rolled out by Google is the ability to completely block intrusive pop-up ads within specific categories. Users will have the flexibility to change their preferences if they reconsider their choices.
In a statement on its website, Google emphasized that the new feature "is an additional step in empowering users to have even greater control over their advertising preferences."
The rollout of this functionality will be gradual, starting with an official launch in the United States. However, the company anticipates making it available for Google Ads and YouTube worldwide by early next year.
"We will continue to enhance our control tools. As our products evolve, so too will the features we make available for ad personalization to meet user expectations," the developers added in their official release.
It's worth noting that this fall, Italy's National Communications Authority launched an investigation into Google's advertising campaigns, accusing the corporation of violating national regulations regarding gambling services advertising.
In related news, the United Kingdom is set to open the world's first treatment center for female gambling addiction.
