A lucky resident of Luton, UK, struck it rich earlier this month at the local Grosvenor Casino, winning a jackpot of £46,000 (approximately $58,000). The windfall came from a £1 (about $1.25) side bet in blackjack.
The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, is a 40-year-old employee of Amazon. He is a regular at the casino and is already contemplating how to spend his newfound fortune.
Sharon Flowers, the general manager of Grosvenor Casino Luton, expressed her excitement, stating, "Huge congratulations to our lucky winner from all the staff at the casino. It was amazing to see him turn a £1 bet into £46,000."
The side bet in blackjack allows players to qualify for the progressive Ace King jackpot, which requires both the player and the dealer to have a suited King and Ace combination.
Grosvenor Casinos was established in 1970 and now operates over 50 gaming establishments across the UK. The brand is part of the Rank Group Plc gaming company.
This win in Luton continues a streak of significant victories in 2024 for Grosvenor Casino patrons in various British cities. Earlier in January, a jackpot of £173,000 (around $220,000) was won in Cardiff, with the winner opting to share the prize with a friend. In May, a player at Grosvenor Casino in Great Yarmouth won £113,542 (approximately $145,000) after a successful game of three-card poker.
Meanwhile, in Mississippi, three jackpots were won in a single evening at one of the casinos.
