Richard and Debbie Nuttall from Lancashire, England, have claimed half of the EuroMillions jackpot in the draw held on January 30, 2024. The couple received £61,708,231 (approximately 7.3 billion rubles), prompting both to decide to quit their jobs.
Debbie, who worked in civil engineering, has already submitted her resignation, while her husband, an accountant, informed his clients that he plans to leave his position in April. The couple discovered their life-changing win while on a week-long holiday in the Canary Islands, celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. Initially, upon receiving a letter from the National Lottery, they thought it might be a scam and spent some time trying to get a signal to check their account. The full realization of their victory came when the Nuttalls were contacted by lottery representatives over the phone.
They have already begun spending their newfound wealth, purchasing new golf clubs, luxurious bedding, and a BMW X5 valued at £128,000 (around 15 million rubles). The family also plans to expand their garden and install a greenhouse.
The winning numbers were 5, 10, 19, 27, and 30, with the Lucky Stars being 5 and 6. The other half of the jackpot went to a player in Spain.
While Richard and Debbie Nuttall have chosen to leave their jobs, not all lottery millionaires take the same route. Mark Gardiner, who won £22,590,829 (about 2.7 billion rubles) nearly 30 years ago alongside a business partner in the National Lottery, continues to work to this day. Now 61, he still drives around his hometown of Hastings in a van emblazoned with the name Croft Glass—the company he founded four years before his win. Despite acquiring a mansion, a home in Barbados, a luxury car collection, and even a yacht, Mark has opted not to retire, stating that work helps him maintain his sanity.
Meanwhile, the potential value of the Wynn casino complex in New York has risen from $10 billion to $12 billion.
