In Carterville, Illinois, the official opening of the new Walker’s Bluff casino resort took place, attended by casino representatives, local leaders, and Governor J.B. Pritzker.
The $147 million facility, covering 17,650 square feet, features a gaming area with 650 slot machines and 14 table games. The property also includes a hotel with 113 rooms, numerous bars and restaurants, a fitness center, and a spa. For meetings, conventions, and other large events, there is a conference center with a capacity of 1,200.
Walker’s Bluff is the fourteenth casino in Illinois and the third project launched in the state in 2023, following the openings of The Temporary in Waukegan and Golden Nugget in Danville. In a few weeks, the first casino in Chicago, a temporary facility by Bally’s at the Medina Temple, is also set to open.
Tom Griffith, the casino's general manager, stated, “The opening of Walker’s Bluff is a testament to the dedication and collaboration of our community. This establishment serves as a source of pride for all involved, and its impact will be felt for generations to come.”
The primary owner of Walker’s Bluff is Elite Casino Resorts. CEO Dan Kehl expressed, “We are thrilled to work with local and regional contractors and suppliers. They have demonstrated exceptional skill and commitment. This collaboration has not only resulted in a modern facility but has also expanded opportunities for the community, driving economic growth and creating jobs.”
Notably, the Netherlands has generated nearly a billion dollars in gaming taxes following the legalization of iGaming.
