A resident of New Jersey has won a staggering Mega Millions jackpot of $1.13 billion (approximately 104.5 billion rubles) in the drawing held on March 26. The winning numbers were 7, 11, 22, 29, 38, and the Mega Ball 4.
This jackpot marks the fifth largest in Mega Millions history and the eighth largest in the history of U.S. lotteries. The odds of winning stood at 1 in 302.6 million. The jackpot ended a streak of 31 consecutive Mega Millions drawings without a grand prize winner.
Details about the new billionaire remain scarce, and they may stay that way, as New Jersey is one of 16 states that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous. The winner has the option to receive the full amount, which would be paid out over 30 years, or take a lump sum of $537.5 million (about 49.7 billion rubles).
In addition to the grand prize winner, 13 players matched five out of six numbers and each won $1 million (approximately 92.48 million rubles). A lucky player from New York also won $2 million (around 184.97 million rubles) by utilizing the Megaplier feature, which multiplies secondary prizes without affecting the odds of winning the jackpot.
Mega Millions is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The largest jackpot in the history of this lottery, amounting to $1.58 billion (over 146 billion rubles), was won by a participant from Florida in August 2023.
In a related note, a study conducted by Lottery Geeks compared the number of Powerball winners, another major U.S. lottery, in each state to their overall population. The results revealed that Delaware has the highest proportion of Powerball winners, with approximately 10 winners for every million residents.
Additionally, it is worth noting that the legalization of casinos could potentially generate an extra 449 billion baht in revenue for Thailand.
