A resident of North Carolina has won $1 million (approximately 80.4 million rubles) in the lottery, but initially thought there was a mistake on his ticket. Fortunately for Travis Wilhelm from Statesville, he was mistaken. He became the lucky winner of the jackpot in the local Emerald 10 lottery game.
"I thought I was going crazy," the winner shared, recounting his experience. He checked the ticket repeatedly on the lottery website before realizing that his win was indeed real. This disbelief is a common reaction among lottery winners, as many struggle to accept their good fortune.
Travis has been participating in lotteries for a long time. This time, he purchased his ticket at Fast Phil’s in Harmony, located in Iredell County. His chances of winning were slim, with odds of 1 in 3.8 million.
Wilhelm has consistently used the same numbers for every draw he entered, and this time, those numbers proved to be lucky.
The winner opted for a lump-sum payment of $600,000 (about 48.2 million rubles). After taxes, his take-home amount will be $430,503 (approximately 34.6 million rubles). Alternatively, the full jackpot could have been received over 20 years in monthly installments.
In a related note, a resident of Massachusetts recently won the lottery twice by mistakenly mixing up the dates, earning two prizes of $1 million each (around 80.4 million rubles).
