A resident of North Carolina has won a substantial jackpot in the local lottery
The hefty jackpot was awarded to a participant in the popular lottery game "The Lamp Dark Arts," one of the most dynamic machines in the North Carolina Education Lottery lineup, where the prize amount increases through a progressive system. Following the payout, the jackpot reverted to its standard value of $100,000 (₽8.1 million).
Lottery officials have confirmed that no one has yet come forward to claim the winnings. The winner has 180 days to collect the prize, or it will be forfeited. However, since the ticket was registered electronically, the likelihood of the prize owner missing this opportunity is extremely low. Moreover, experts believe that the ticket holder is likely already consulting financial advisors on how to manage their newfound wealth.
Lottery history is filled with instances of unexpected twists following big wins. For example, in Canada, a woman claimed a prize for a ticket purchased in her boyfriend's name, ultimately keeping the money for herself and soon ending her relationship to start anew.
The North Carolina Education Lottery has been in operation since 2005 and is considered one of the key sources of funding for educational programs in the state.
