A study by BritishGambler has revealed differences in the gambling behaviors of male and female players
The researchers found that among those who favor so-called "luck slots," 78% were women. In stark contrast, when it comes to betting, the figures flip dramatically, with 72% of bettors being men. This led the organization to draw several conclusions, including the notion that men are more attracted to competitions that rely on skill and experience.
Alexander Kostin from BritishGambler stated, "It's fascinating to observe the differences in betting behavior between men and women. The study revealed that men are drawn to outcome-based betting that relies on skill. Additionally, we found that even in some games of chance, men dominate. For instance, in online poker, where the outcome is heavily influenced by luck, 83% of players are men."
Kostin also noted that women tend to choose entertainment options separately from men. However, he pointed out that women are now betting on sports much more frequently than in the past. The study indicated that this summer, nearly 50% of the bets placed at the Royal Ascot races were made by women. Nevertheless, Kostin highlighted that 78% of female bettors supported specific horses "because of their name or color, as well as a desire to bet on the jockey."
The research also uncovered intriguing insights into how different genders cope with losses. According to the findings, women rarely discuss their losses, while men are less inclined to feel embarrassed about them. This behavior is often linked to men's desire to demonstrate that they can afford to take risks, even if they result in losses.
