Italy is reintroducing strict restrictions in response to a surge in COVID-19 cases, as announced by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte. According to the signed decree, all casinos and gaming halls will be closed.
The ANSA news agency reports that these measures will be in effect from October 26 to November 24. This is a tentative timeframe that may be extended depending on the evolving situation regarding the spread of the virus.
Some gaming operators have already approached the authorities, seeking compensation for the losses they will incur due to the complete closure of land-based clubs. However, this issue has not yet been brought before the Cabinet.
Earlier reports indicated that the revenue of Italy's gaming industry rose to €184 million in September, with online casinos leading the growth, experiencing a 25.4% increase in income.
Additionally, it has been noted that Italy has launched an investigation into gambling advertisements on Google.
