In November of last year, Allwyn agreed to the terms set by the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP) for the acquisition of Camelot UK. This deal was essential for facilitating the transition of the National Lottery under the management of Allwyn UK, with a smooth integration expected by February 2024.
The transfer of National Lottery responsibilities has already begun, overseen by Allwyn Group CEO Robert Chvatal. He has agreed to serve as interim CEO in the UK to ensure compliance with all provisions of the Fourth License.
Chvatal commented on the deal, stating, "Today marks an important milestone on our journey to becoming the operator of the National Lottery. The acquisition of Camelot will help ensure a seamless transition from the third to the fourth license. We will combine the collective experience and technical know-how of both operators. We are very excited to welcome Camelot into the Allwyn family. We share a common passion: to protect and enhance the National Lottery and the good causes it supports."
With the approval of the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC), Allwyn is instilling greater confidence in the future of the National Lottery among its partners and Camelot employees, who will join the new company.
Allwyn has announced several upcoming changes to the board and leadership of Camelot, which will take effect after the deal is finalized. Current Chief Financial Officer Claire Swindell and Chief Commercial Officer Neil Brocklehurst will become co-leaders, managing Camelot until the expiration of the third license in January 2024.
The current leadership duo of Camelot UK, Sir Hugh Robertson and Nigel Railton, has agreed to step down from the board and leave the company. Sir Keith Mills will be appointed as the new chairman upon the deal's closure, pending regulatory approval.
Earlier, the National Lottery identified the luckiest counties in Ireland.
