A Chandler resident and U.S. Army veteran, Michael H., has become Arizona's newest millionaire. On Saturday, he hit a massive jackpot thanks to a fortunate twist of fate. His wife, Betty, suggested they visit the casino a day earlier than usual, leading the couple to a life-changing win of $1,033,590.
Typically, the couple frequents the Gila River Resorts & Casinos – Santan Mountain on Sundays. However, this time their plans changed, and luck smiled upon them on Saturday at 1:30 PM local time. Michael won the jackpot playing the Wheel of Fortune slot machine, turning an ordinary day into the most memorable moment of their lives.
According to the lucky winner, the couple had initially planned to spend the weekend at Rocky Point, but they were forced to stay home after their dog sitter canceled at the last minute. This unexpected turn of events led to their fateful victory.
Michael H. commented on his big win at Gila River Casino, saying, "I'm glad I listened to my wife. Now we can buy a new home and visit family more often who live outside of Arizona."
In addition to being a veteran, Michael is a former American Airlines employee. He currently works part-time as a shuttle driver for a retirement home, regularly taking residents to the very same Santan Mountain casino. His win marks the fourth jackpot exceeding one million dollars awarded by the Gila River casino network.
"We are incredibly happy for Michael and Betty," said Michael West, the casino's CEO. He added that stories like theirs illustrate how the casino strives to create a special connection with each guest.
In related news, a Louisiana resident recently won a jackpot at Harlow's Casino in Mississippi.
