David Croft, Senior Vice President of Tangam Systems and an expert in gaming analytics, has shared his forecast regarding the spread of "smart" tables in the gaming industry. He believes that by the end of 2025, these tables will be present in all major gambling establishments in Macau, the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand. Croft is confident that the integration of intelligent technologies into table games could transform the casino landscape by offering enhanced security, efficiency, and profitability.
Currently, there are three types of "smart" tables available. The first utilizes radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology, which allows for tracking gameplay and visitor activity. The second option features tables equipped with cameras, including those capable of facial recognition for players. The third variant is a hybrid technology that combines the capabilities of RFID and video surveillance.
One of the primary advantages of employing intelligent technologies in table games is the potential to significantly reduce or completely eliminate revenue leakage. Additionally, "smart" tables can detect counterfeit chips, record dealer errors, and improve data collection for managing gaming floors and profits. They provide precise tracking of bets, which aids in effective and timely decision-making.
In a recent report, brokerage firm Citi noted that approximately 10% of the tables in Macau's casinos are "smart." These tables are already in use at several establishments, including MGM China and Wynn Macau. Previously, operators such as Galaxy, Melco, and SJM have mentioned plans to implement these tables by 2024.
Croft believes that the complexity of integrating intelligent technologies will depend on the type of gaming discipline. As a result, the initial rollout of this innovation will primarily impact baccarat.
It is worth noting that "smart" tables could increase Macau's gross gaming revenue by 6%.
