CasinoCanada has analyzed the successes of the Canadian gambling industry
In recent years, Canada has made significant strides in developing its gambling market. The turning point came in 2021 when the federal government legalized single-event sports betting. This was followed by the launch of a regulated iGaming market in Ontario in April 2022, which has shown increasingly positive results and attracted considerable interest from gambling brands eager to operate legally in the country.
According to the report from CasinoCanada's team of analysts, the gambling industry generated over CAD 15 billion (approximately RUB 902.5 billion) in revenue last year. In comparison, the local industry was valued at CAD 12.54 billion (around RUB 754.49 billion at current exchange rates) in 2021.
The sector also provided employment for more than 135,500 individuals. Additional data indicates that around 18.9 million Canadians engaged in gambling activities in 2022, with 95% of them classified as non-problem gamblers.
While lotteries were once the primary source of revenue for the sector, this is changing. For instance, last year, slots and bingo emerged as the most popular forms of iGaming.
Dmitry Rogalchuk, head of content at CasinoCanada, emphasized that the 2023 Canadian Gambling Market Overview offers crucial insights for industry stakeholders, policymakers, and users. He believes that analyzing current market trends and future prospects will help navigate this rapidly evolving sector.
Meanwhile, the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) is seeking to make "rapid progress in several key areas" in implementing its White Paper.
