According to a report from Citigroup, casinos in Macau are actively upgrading their equipment by installing smart gaming tables. Some operators have fully outfitted their mass-market baccarat areas with these advanced tables.
These observations align with statements from casino representatives, who anticipate completing the modernization by the Chinese New Year. Craig Billings, CEO of Wynn Resorts, confirmed that 25% of the company’s tables are already "smart." The modernization efforts are expected to be finalized by January 2025.
Smart tables are equipped with advanced technologies for automated data collection and analysis regarding bets and customer actions. They utilize built-in sensors and recognition systems, enabling casino operators to optimize marketing strategies, speed up gameplay, and enhance management efficiency.
Citigroup analysts George Choi and Timothy Chau highlighted five premium and mass-market areas where smart tables have been installed. The introduction of these intelligent tables and new side bets allows operators to accelerate the gaming process. Additionally, the innovative technology improves customer retention rates, positively impacting gross gaming revenue (GGR).
Citigroup reports a growing demand in the premium sector. In November, analysts recorded unprecedented bets, including one amounting to HK$2.2 million (approximately US$283,000). There has been a 29% increase in premium players for 2024, along with a 29% rise in overall betting volume during the same period.
Meanwhile, Wynn Resorts has announced plans for the renovation and expansion of gaming areas and other projects in Macau.
