On Sunday, April 16, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment, a leading operator of land-based gaming establishments in Canada, announced the suspension of operations at its casinos in Ontario due to a system-wide failure. The company will notify users about the resumption of services via social media.
One of the affected locations was Casino Rama, where the system malfunctions occurred on the gaming floor. Despite the temporary halt in gaming operations, the venue has continued to operate its hotel and the Weirs restaurant.
In addition to Rama in Orillia, gaming facilities at the Cascades Casino in Chatham, Gateway locations in Sarnia, London, Woodstock, and Clinton, as well as the Playtime venue in Hanover, were also temporarily closed. There have been no updates regarding the reopening of these establishments. Meanwhile, the news has sparked lively discussions among Gateway's audience on social media. The company is reassuring users and urging them to remain patient, while also apologizing for the inconvenience.
Gateway Casinos and Entertainment operates 29 venues across Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia, offering a variety of dining options, including the Buffet and Match Eatery & Public House.
Earlier this month, the operator announced the return of its My Club Rewards loyalty program for its Ontario casinos. Guests can now earn points while playing at the brand's hotels, which can be redeemed for premium rewards at Casino Rama. Recently added prizes include concerts, cruises, spa treatments, and hotel stays. In April, Gateway also announced the reopening of the Atlas Steak + Fish restaurant at the Starlight Casino, located in the West Edmonton Mall in British Columbia.
In related news, Detroit casinos reported a slight increase in revenue for the first quarter of 2023.
