The regulatory body iGaming Ontario has reported that gaming revenue surpassed CAD 520 million (approximately RUB 31.37 billion) for the period from January 1 to March 31, 2023. Since its launch in April 2022, the province's legal market has generated a total profit of CAD 1.4 billion, with both betting and gaming revenue increasing by 50% each quarter.
In the latest quarter, iGO reported total betting amounts reaching CAD 13.5 billion, up from CAD 11.5 billion in the previous quarter. Overall gaming revenue rose from CAD 463 million to CAD 526 million when comparing the third quarter to the January-March 2023 period. The regulator noted that total bets do not include promotional bonuses, while gaming revenue includes rake fees, tournament fees, and other charges from all operators, minus winnings received by users from cash bets, excluding operational expenses or other liabilities.
During the fourth quarter, there were just over one million active accounts. The province's legal market comprises 76 gaming sites and 45 operators, with average monthly user spending estimated at USD 70 (around RUB 5,700).
Throughout the year, online casino players showed a strong preference for slot machines, which accounted for 48% of total bets. This was followed by live dealer table games at 32% and standard online table games at 19%. In the sports betting market, basketball emerged as the leading choice, making up 29% of all bets placed over the year. Soccer and American football followed with 15% and 13%, respectively, while hockey ranked fourth with 9%.
