Macau casino operator SJM Resorts Ltd has announced a special discretionary bonus for its employees equivalent to one month's salary. According to the company's press release, approximately 98% of its workforce will receive this bonus on January 31 of this year.
SJM Resorts Managing Director Daisy Ho Chiu Fung commented on the bonus payout, stating, "With the commencement of our new 10-year gaming concession in 2023, SJM has opened a new chapter of continuous development and innovation. The company sincerely appreciates the efforts and contributions of our team members who have seized the opportunities presented during the post-pandemic recovery. This has led to sustainable growth in our business and significant progress in non-gaming sectors such as culture, gastronomy, and sports and entertainment events."
Ho also mentioned that SJM will continue to leverage the company's strengths and connections to provide visitors with high-quality tourism and leisure products and services. The operator aims to further invigorate the diversification of Macau's economy.
SJM Resorts Ltd is a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed SJM Holdings Ltd. The operator manages several gaming establishments in Macau, including Casino Grand Lisboa Palace, Casino Emperor Palace, and Casino Ponte 16, among others.
Macau is home to six major casino operators: Sands China, Wynn Macau, Galaxy Entertainment, MGM China, Melco Resorts, and SJM, which is the latest to announce discretionary bonuses for its staff. Sands China and Melco have also expressed intentions to raise employee salaries.
Notably, Macau's gross gaming revenue reached 4.4 billion patacas in the first week of January.
