Macau Casinos Target Tourists from India and the Middle East
This decision was made during a recent plenary session of the Legislative Assembly. According to the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Macau had been "growing and thriving" in expanding its Indian tourist market prior to 2019. Authorities are also keen to attract visitors from the Middle East.
However, the transition may not be straightforward due to cultural and culinary differences. Professor Zen Zhonglu from the Gaming Research Group at the Macau Polytechnic University noted, "India has a large population, although the per capita income is relatively low. If we can attract a few high-income groups to Macau, the numbers could be significant."
The professor believes that a key factor in successfully attracting guests from India and the Middle East will be how Macau navigates cultural and language barriers. However, he also pointed out that the region's proximity to Hong Kong International Airport will aid in Macau's plans.
Discussing the Middle Eastern market, the professor highlighted its substantial potential for attracting high rollers. "If successful, this will be beneficial for Macau," Zen stated.
The Chinese enclave is also working on enhancing cooperation with Hong Kong International Airport. The new plan would allow passengers to collect their luggage directly in Macau, bypassing Hong Kong's immigration services. There are considerations for transporting luggage overland or by sea.
Meanwhile, gross gaming revenue in the UK has increased by 5% year-on-year.
