Brokerage firm CLSA Ltd has shared its forecast for Macau's total gross gaming revenue (GGR) for February 2024, estimating it could exceed 19.8 billion patacas (approximately 225.9 billion rubles). This surge is attributed to strong performance during the Chinese New Year holiday period.
Analysts Jeffrey Kiang and Leo Pan noted that the average daily attendance in the city from February 10 to 17 aligns with the Macau government's Tourism Office's forecast of 120,000 visitors per day. Official data indicates that the city welcomed over 898,000 visitors during the first five days of the holiday, with an average of 179,700 tourists per day. "This was confirmed during our visit on February 12, when we observed significant traffic at the borders and in the four integrated resorts we visited," they added.
The Chinese New Year celebrations typically mark the peak season for Macau's gaming industry, attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists from mainland China.
CLSA indicated that there is a possibility of raising its current GGR forecast for Macau. The figure provided by the analysts is already 2% higher than the revenue recorded in January. If CLSA's estimate holds true for February, the city will achieve a record monthly GGR since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The analysts also pointed out that the most common minimum bet at baccarat tables was 1,000 patacas (11,408 rubles), which could rise to 2,000-5,000 patacas (22,816-57,040 rubles) in the afternoon. In addition to baccarat, there was high demand for the game sic bo, which had a minimum bet of 500 patacas (5,704 rubles), as well as for slot machines and terminals.
