The American gaming company Mohegan has announced that the development of Inspire Korea is ahead of schedule. Non-gaming amenities at the still-under-construction resort in Incheon could be available by the end of 2023. However, there is still uncertainty regarding the launch of gaming operations.
Construction of the project resumed in early February after several months of forced suspension. Nevertheless, Mohegan's CEO, Ray Pineault, remains optimistic: "We expect to complete the project and launch non-gaming operations in the second half of 2023, followed by the opening of the casino once we receive our license."
Pineault also noted that construction of Inspire is currently 4.5% ahead of schedule, with major work completed at 43.5% as of January 31, 2023.
"After a comprehensive review of Mohegan Inspire, we anticipate additional equity investments to fund various aspects of the project. Significant attention is being given to expanding hotel rooms, conference facilities, and food and beverage offerings. There is a strong trend towards recreation in the local Korean market, and we want to ensure that our non-gaming amenities are sufficient to capture a significant market share and support other resort programs, including the arena," he stated.
The Mohegan Inspire complex is set to include a casino for foreigners, three hotel towers, an arena, retail shops, conference halls, restaurants, and more. It will be the second resort of its kind in Incheon, following Paradise City.
