The largest jackpot in Powerball history has been awarded to an anonymous winner in New Zealand, totaling $44 million (approximately 2.38 billion rubles). The winning numbers were 24, 17, 25, 30, 6, and 3, with a bonus ball numbered 36 and the Powerball being 1. Lucy Fullarton, head of corporate communications at Lotto NZ, revealed that the player chose the same numbers for all ten lines on their ticket. This means that, in addition to the jackpot, the lottery participant also won ten first division Lotto prizes, amounting to $666,670 (around 36 million rubles).
Fourteen other players who did not have the Powerball number each received $66,667 (3.6 million rubles). Additionally, two individuals shared the Strike Four prize of $500,000 (27 million rubles), awarded for matching four winning numbers in a single line of the ticket in sequential order.
With the additional prizes, this new jackpot surpassed the previous record of $44.06 million (2.382 billion rubles), which was won by a couple from Auckland in 2016. Reflecting on their win, the lucky couple advised future winners to remember to take care of their basic needs: "It's easy to forget about things like food and sleep in the first few days after a big win," they noted.
Two other lottery participants who shared a $50 million (2.7 billion rubles) jackpot in 2020 emphasized the importance of informing the "right" people: "Limit your circle, but make sure to share the news with someone. You'll need support from at least one other person to get through those first weeks."
The largest jackpot in New Zealand for 2024, amounting to $50 million (2.7 billion rubles), was drawn on June 8, with seven lucky winners each taking home $7.18 million (388.2 million rubles).
In a related note, a resident of Michigan won $2 million in the instant lottery game Jackson.
