The iGaming sector in Ontario continues to experience robust growth. In May, gross revenue from this segment reached a new record of CAD 338 million (approximately USD 252 million), despite a slight decline in the number of active players. User spending, however, hit an all-time high.
This new figure surpassed the previous record of CAD 328.5 million (around USD 243 million) set in January 2025 by 2.9%. Compared to May of last year, revenue increased by 40.3%, and it rose by 8% from April.
Online casinos accounted for CAD 259.8 million (about USD 192 million), marking a year-on-year growth of 45.3%. Sports betting contributed an additional CAD 71.8 million (approximately USD 53 million), up 26.3% from May 2024. Revenue from online poker also saw an increase of 18.9%, reaching CAD 6.3 million (around USD 4.7 million). Player preferences were distributed as follows:
The total amount wagered in May 2025 reached CAD 8.07 billion (approximately USD 5.9 billion), surpassing the symbolic threshold of CAD 8 billion for the first time. The previous high was recorded in March at CAD 7.95 billion (around USD 5.8 billion). Year-on-year, the betting volume grew by 28.9%, and it increased by 3.5% compared to April.
Online casino players spent CAD 6.96 billion (approximately USD 5.1 billion), which is a 30.9% increase compared to May 2024. Sports betting rose by 18.5% to CAD 972 million (around USD 720 million), while poker wagers increased by 11.6% to CAD 129 million (approximately USD 95 million).
These impressive figures were achieved despite a decrease in the number of active players, which fell by 2% to 1.07 million. However, the average revenue per active account grew by 10%, reaching CAD 316 (around USD 235).
It is worth noting that the iGaming market in Ontario saw a 34% increase in revenue for the first quarter of the year, totaling CAD 726 million (approximately USD 540 million).
