Payouts from Bulgarian operators to players increased by 147% from 2022 to 2023
The figures were provided by the National Revenue Agency, led by Rumen Spetsov. The report only includes cash and material winnings exceeding 5,000 levs (241,576 rubles). Under current Bulgarian law, operators are required to report any such payouts to tax authorities. However, since smaller winnings were not accounted for, the total amount received by players last year likely exceeded 6 billion levs (276 billion rubles).
According to the National Revenue Agency, payouts to players in 2023 surpassed the 2022 figures by 147%. In 2022, the total was 2.34 billion levs (107.6 billion rubles). The number of individuals receiving winnings over 5,000 levs also increased significantly, rising from 52,852 to 120,853, or by 128.7%.
When considering only payouts above 5,000 levs, the average amount per player in 2022 was 44,275 levs (approximately 2 million rubles). In 2023, this figure increased by 8.2%, reaching 47,909 levs (2.2 million rubles).
Despite proposals from several political parties in April to significantly reduce gambling advertising and implement various other restrictions, the market continues to expand. In the same month, provider Hacksaw Gaming entered into a partnership with Alphawin. Additionally, iGaming software supplier SOFTSWISS secured a deal with Topwin, while provider Evoplay expanded its presence in the country by collaborating with regional online casino Sesame.
Notably, amendments to the Gambling Act may be introduced in Bulgaria.
