The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has released the financial results for the state's gambling market in 2023. The total revenue for the industry reached $5.69 billion, an increase of 9.3% compared to 2022.
This revenue growth has positively impacted state tax revenues, with $2.34 billion collected over the past year, up from $2.12 billion in 2022.
The financial report includes income from various sources, including slot machines, table games, sports betting, iGaming, video terminals, and fantasy sports. The regulator noted that the increase was primarily driven by the iGaming sector, which saw revenues rise nearly 28% to $1.74 billion. However, the largest share of revenue came from slot machines, which generated $2.46 billion.
In contrast, the table games sector experienced a slight decline of 1.9% compared to 2022, with total revenue falling to just under $971.7 million. Sports betting brought in $458.6 million, reflecting a year-over-year increase of 14.31%.
In 2023, Pennsylvania's monthly gambling revenue surpassed $500 million for the first time since the state legalized the gaming industry in 2006.
The PGCB oversees all sectors of Pennsylvania's gambling market, from traditional casinos to online platforms. Currently, the state is home to 17 land-based casinos, including six located at racetracks, five standalone casinos, four mini-casinos, and two resort casinos, all categorized into different classes—1, 2, 3, or 4.
Additionally, it is worth noting that the net profit of the gambling operator GKL exceeded 44 billion won in 2023.
