ProgressPlay has been fined £1 million by the UK Gambling Commission
ProgressPlay operates online casinos and sportsbooks under a white-label model, managing a total of 134 websites. In 2022, the company was found guilty of similar breaches of its licensing conditions, resulting in a fine of £175,718 (around 19 million rubles).
John Pierce, the UKGC's Director of Enforcement and Intelligence, commented on the situation: "Operators should have no doubt that repeated regulatory violations will lead to stricter enforcement actions. We strongly encourage all licensees to review the details of this case and take proactive measures to strengthen their control systems."
In addition to the fine, ProgressPlay will be required to undergo an independent audit.
All UKGC license holders are mandated to prevent money laundering and the financing of terrorism. The investigation revealed that ProgressPlay lacked adequate measures to assess risks. Furthermore, the company was negligent in monitoring customer activity during account openings, which was deemed a breach of business social responsibility. Casinos are expected to mitigate potential gambling-related harm.
The report indicates that the identified violations occurred between August 2021 and August 2024, during which ProgressPlay cooperated with the Attorney General while simultaneously addressing the issues.
Notably, in the Philippines, operators have come together to form the PlaySafe Alliance of the Philippines, an initiative aimed at enhancing accountability and safety within the gambling environment.
