Data from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board indicates that revenue has increased by 4.2% year-over-year, totaling $425.3 million from regulated casinos and similar establishments in the industry.
The sources of income regulated by the Pennsylvania Board include slot machines, table games, sports betting, fantasy contests, and video gaming terminals (VGTs). Revenue from land-based slot machines fell by 4% year-over-year to $201.2 million, while income from retail table games decreased by 9% to $78.4 million.
Hollywood Casino at Penn National topped the list of the most profitable land-based establishments in Pennsylvania, generating $60.9 million—an increase of 22% compared to August 2021. Parx Casino in Philadelphia reported earnings of $56 million, down 4% from the previous year. Rivers Casino Philadelphia rounded out the top three with a revenue of $45 million.
Online gaming revenue surged by 20.8% to $107.1 million. Hollywood Casino at Penn National led this segment with $43.9 million, followed by Rivers Casino Philadelphia with $26.8 million and Valley Forge Casino Resort with $17.7 million. Tax revenue from online gaming in August amounted to $45.9 million.
Sports betting profits reached $336 million, a 4.1% increase from August 2021, when they stood at $348.5 million. Taxable revenue from sports betting was $33.9 million, marking an 88.5% rise compared to the same period in 2021.
Valley Forge, in partnership with FanDuel, maintained its top position in the sports betting sector with $132 million in revenue. Hollywood Casino secured second place with $91 million from its sportsbook operations, while Morgantown Resort reported $39.2 million. Additionally, the Hollywood Casino at Penn National and DraftKings reported a combined revenue of $24 million from sports betting.
