The gambling sector in Queensland has reported robust results for May, showing significant year-on-year growth. Analyst Jeff Wulsen from Wohlsen Consulting noted that revenues increased by 13.5% compared to May 2024 and by 8.5% from April 2025. Such strong growth in the gambling market is typical for this month, with Wulsen attributing the revenue boost to additional trading days and the impact of holidays.
The total gross revenue from gaming machines across the state reached AUD 332.7 million (approximately ₽17.13 billion) in May 2025, significantly higher than the AUD 293.1 million (around ₽15.09 billion) recorded in the same month last year. The average daily revenue per machine rose by 12.1%, from AUD 237 (₽12,206) to AUD 266 (₽13,693).
Market share distribution between clubs and hotels remained stable, with clubs controlling 52.5% of all operating machines, a slight increase from 52.2% a year earlier. The share of hotels decreased from 47.8% to 47.5%.
May 2025 marked the second-highest revenue month in the history of Queensland's gambling establishments, trailing only August 2024, when revenues exceeded AUD 339.3 million (₽17.47 billion).
Club performance remains particularly strong, with the number of active machines rising from 20,807 to 21,209. Gross gaming revenue in clubs increased from AUD 125.9 million (₽6.48 billion) to AUD 145.4 million (₽7.49 billion). The average daily income per machine climbed from AUD 195 (₽10,040) to AUD 221 (₽11,384), reflecting growth rates of 15.4% and 13.2%, respectively.
Hotels also showed positive trends, with the number of machines increasing from 19,091 to 19,172. Gross gaming revenue from hotels rose from AUD 167.2 million (₽8.61 billion) to AUD 187.3 million (₽9.64 billion). The average daily revenue per machine reached AUD 315 (₽16,222), marking a 12% increase compared to May 2024.
Notably, a woman from Queensland won the third-largest jackpot in the history of Australian lotteries.
