Sales for the lottery operator Camelot increased by nearly £100 million over the past year
Camelot noted that the rise in sales allowed for £1.8 billion (178.79 billion rubles) to be allocated to charitable causes, which is an increase of £6.2 million (615.8 million rubles) compared to the previous year. The National Lottery awarded players £4.69 billion (465.85 billion rubles) in prizes, creating 382 new millionaires, including five who won EuroMillions jackpots in the UK.
Co-CEOs of Camelot, Claire Swindell and Neil Brocklehurst, stated: "We are pleased to see National Lottery sales grow to the second-highest level in history, making nearly 400 lucky individuals millionaires in the process. With £36 million raised for charitable projects in the UK each week and ticket sales reaching their highest level, it is clear that the National Lottery is benefiting players and society during these challenging times."
Earlier in 2023, Camelot UK was acquired by Czech operator Allwyn. The two companies are currently operating separately, but it is expected that the British operator will transfer its lottery license to Allwyn.
Robert Chvatal, CEO of Allwyn, commented: "Last year's results showcase the National Lottery's core strengths in consistently delivering good causes, even as consumer spending comes under pressure.
