Macau gaming operator SJM Resorts Ltd. will increase employee salaries starting April 1 of this year. Company representatives announced that the pay raise will benefit 99.5% of the workforce as a gesture of appreciation for their contributions and dedication.
Employees who joined the company before January 1 of this year will be eligible for the salary increase. Those earning a base salary of up to 16,000 patacas (approximately $2,000) will receive a raise of 600 patacas (about $75). Employees with salaries above this threshold can expect a 2.5% increase.
In a recent official statement, the operator emphasized its commitment to enhancing employee performance and service quality: "SJM and our team members will continue to strive for high-quality innovative developments, injecting new momentum and vitality into Macau's economy."
SJM Resorts Ltd. is the operational arm of SJM Holdings Ltd., which develops, manages, and owns integrated casino resorts. According to corporate reports, as of the end of June last year, the company employed around 18,400 staff. Among its 13 properties in Macau, the largest is the Grand Lisboa Palace located in the Cotai area.
SJM is the last of the six city operators to announce salary increases for its employees. Competitors, including Galaxy Entertainment Group, Sands China, MGM China Holdings, Wynn Macau, and Melco, are set to raise wages in March or April 2024.
Earlier, representatives from SJM Resorts, along with press offices from other operators, announced a special bonus for the majority of employees, equivalent to one month's salary. This bonus was announced for January 31 of this year.
Notably, Marina Bay Sands reported earnings of $1.1 billion in the final quarter of 2023.
