Australian gaming company Star Entertainment has announced a delay in the opening of its Queen’s Wharf casino complex in Brisbane. Initially slated for completion in the second half of this year, the new expected opening date is now April 2024.
The postponement was recommended by a group of investors due to the pressures faced by major infrastructure projects across Australia. Robbie Cook, CEO and Managing Director of The Star Group, expressed disappointment but emphasized the significance of the project, stating, “We are disappointed, but this transformational development for Brisbane has been in the works for eight years, and it will be worth it. Queen’s Wharf will be a game changer for a city that continues to attract global attention as we approach the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
According to the company, construction on certain areas has already been completed, including numerous restaurants and entertainment and gaming spaces on the fifth and sixth floors of the complex. Additionally, Star Entertainment reported that the third and final section of the Sky Deck bridge was installed on June 2, 2023, paving the way for the lift and installation of the Sky Deck in the coming weeks. The completed platform will connect all four towers of the Queen’s Wharf complex.
The Sky Deck is a 250-meter rooftop platform featuring bars and restaurants, offering visitors panoramic views of the city and the river from a height of 100 meters. The design allows for a capacity of up to 1,500 people.
The Queen’s Wharf Brisbane project is being developed by the Destination Brisbane Consortium. Initially, around AUD 2.6 billion (over 140 billion rubles) was allocated for the casino complex, but the cost has since risen to AUD 2.9 billion (more than 157 billion rubles).
Notably, Las Vegas ranked 11th on the list of cities with the worst hotel services in the United States.
