Thai authorities are accelerating the process of legalizing the gambling industry and the construction of entertainment complexes in the country
According to The Nation, Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat announced that the initiative will be presented to the House of Representatives in July. He acknowledged that the Bhumjaithai Party has publicly opposed the legislation, but emphasized that this opposition is insufficient to halt the process.
Julapun Amornvivat stated that the ruling coalition has enough support in Parliament to pass the bill through its first reading and subsequent stages. He expressed confidence that the initiative will be approved within the year, as originally planned.
Currently, government representatives are conducting briefings for parliamentary committees and stakeholders to clarify the project's objectives and alleviate any concerns.
The proposed entertainment complex is viewed as a key component of Prime Minister's broader economic strategy, aimed at stimulating investment, tourism, and job creation across several provinces. Julapun Amornvivat reiterated the government's commitment to transparency and public consultation, promising to consider feedback during the implementation process.
He concluded that the development of the complex represents a significant opportunity for Thailand's economy and society. The authorities are determined to manage the project responsibly, with a focus on long-term public benefits.
It is worth noting that the Thai government is actively seeking investors to legalize casinos in Bangkok.
