The Association of Latin American Restaurants has expressed its support for the casino project in Times Square, New York City
Jeff Garcia, president of NYSLRBLA, stated, "Times Square is undoubtedly the right location for New York's next gaming center. This is great not only for the neighborhood but for the city as a whole. We believe that the increase in tourism will directly benefit minority-owned small businesses across the five boroughs."
NYSLRBLA is a nonprofit organization established to assist Latino business owners in the restaurant and bar industry. It comprises over 350 members operating a range of establishments, from fast-food outlets to upscale restaurants. Members own and manage eateries, bars, and lounges in New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York.
The Caesars project in Times Square, which is currently vying for one of three casino licenses in New York, was proposed in October 2022. Despite criticism from various industry groups, NYSLRBLA supports the casino plan, citing the potential benefits it could bring to the local restaurant business if approved. Last month, the gaming operator promised that if the casino project comes to fruition, participants in the Caesars Rewards loyalty program would be able to convert their points into gift cards for use at local businesses.
In a statement, NYSLRBLA noted, "Economic forecasts indicate that the gaming and entertainment venue will attract over 7 million new visitors to Times Square and generate $967 million in annual spending in the area, providing a much-needed boost to hotels, theaters, restaurants, and businesses, as well as expanding opportunities for retail and dining."
It is worth mentioning that the Seven Clans Casino in Minnesota has successfully completed its expansion project.
