The creators of the Oregon Lottery have released their financial report for 2024, revealing that the organization collected $948 million, which will be returned to the state. This figure represents an increase of $48 million compared to 2023. All funds will be allocated to the renovation of parks and natural habitats, as well as to support public schools, veteran services, and educational institutions related to recreation and economic development.
The lottery's profit for 2024 amounted to $940 million, with unclaimed prizes totaling $8 million. These unclaimed funds will be transferred to the state as tax revenue.
According to the Oregon Lottery's founders, players received nearly $16 billion in winnings over the year. Thirteen participants won prizes of $1 million or more, with the largest payout reaching $1.3 billion, awarded to a PowerBall winner.
The report also highlights the earnings of 3,800 lottery retailers across Oregon, who collectively generated $310 million in revenue for 2024.
Oregon Lottery Director Mike Wells stated, "Local residents help support vital state programs by participating in the drawings. We continue to celebrate our customers' wins, as well as the successes of the retail stores selling tickets. All of them play a crucial role in helping us raise funds for state programs."
Notably, a resident of Virginia won $1 million in the lottery three years after claiming a $100,000 prize.
