The Greek gaming industry demonstrated robust growth in 2024, with revenue increases noted in both traditional and digital segments. According to the annual report from the Hellenic Gaming Commission (EEEP), the total amount wagered across all legal formats reached €15.65 billion (₽1.5 trillion), marking a 7.8% increase compared to 2023. Gross gaming revenue (GGR), which reflects the industry's actual earnings, rose by 11% to €2.87 billion (₽276.2 billion).
The largest operator, OPAP, continued to dominate the land-based market, generating €1.4 billion (₽138.1 billion). Significant contributions came from online platforms, which accounted for over €1 billion (₽102.5 billion) through sports betting and digital casinos.
The EEEP report highlights consumer preferences and issues within the illegal sector. Land-based sales points still constitute the majority of gross gaming revenue, holding a 49.9% share, followed by the iGaming sector at 37.1% and casinos at 8.8%. The remaining 4.3% comes from national lotteries and horse racing.
Among land-based games, KINO, Pame Stoichima, VLTs, and Joker remain the most popular in Greece, forming the backbone of OPAP's income.
Casinos, recovering from the pandemic's impact, earned €252.8 million (₽24.3 billion) in 2024, reflecting a 9.5% increase in revenue. Slot machines accounted for 59% of total earnings, surpassing traditional table games. Among the latter, American roulette, blackjack, poker, and Banco Punto are the most favored.
The report indicates that gambling remains popular in Greece, with 59.91% of the adult population placing at least one bet in 2024. The most active players are typically aged between 35 and 64.
