The iGaming market in Ontario generated $545 million in revenue during the first quarter of 2023
The total betting volume rose from CAD 13.9 billion (USD 10.2 billion) to CAD 14 billion (USD 10.3 billion). The number of operators in the market increased from 44 to 46, while the number of gambling sites decreased from 75 to 71. Compared to the previous quarter, the number of active accounts fell from 1.01 million to 920,000. However, the average monthly spend per account rose from CAD 174 (USD 128) to CAD 197 (USD 145).
Casino entertainment, including table games, slots, and bingo, contributed the most to overall gaming revenue, generating CAD 392 million (USD 290 million). In this segment, the betting volume reached CAD 11.6 billion (over USD 8.5 billion). Sports and esports betting brought in CAD 138 million (USD 101 million), with a total betting volume of CAD 2 billion (USD 1.5 billion). Peer-to-peer (P2P) poker generated CAD 15 million (USD 11 million) from user bets totaling CAD 350 million (USD 256 million).
iGaming Ontario also provided data on the first full year of market operations across each segment. Total revenue amounted to CAD 1.4 billion (over USD 1 billion), while user spending on gaming reached CAD 35.6 billion (approximately USD 26 billion). The share of casino games in these figures was 67% and 38%, respectively, accounting for CAD 940 million (USD 690 million) and CAD 27.6 billion (USD 20 billion). The sports betting segment earned CAD 433 million (over USD 320 million) for the year, while poker generated CAD 40 million (USD 29 million) in revenue.
Meanwhile, Pennsylvania's gaming revenue for the 2022-2023 fiscal year reached a record high of $5.5 billion.
