American cruise line Princess Cruises is set to launch its newest ship, the Sun Princess, in February 2024. The $1 billion vessel will feature the largest casino ever built by the company.
According to Princess Cruises, the casino will be twice the size of those on other ships and will offer 30% more gaming positions. Spanning 836 square meters, it will house 227 gaming machines and 13 table games with live dealers. The casino will be located on the eighth deck, adjacent to the ship's central feature—the Piazza atrium.
John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises, commented on the company's plans: "Casino enthusiasts, high rollers, or anyone looking to try their luck while on vacation will be amazed by the new Princess Casino aboard the Sun Princess. We have leveraged our casino expertise to proudly offer thrilling games in a setting surrounded by world-class dining and entertainment," Padgett said.
Princess Cruises is a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation, which operates casinos on nearly all of its ships. However, these casinos can only accept guests when the vessels are in international waters.
Gaming operations aboard cruise ships are regulated by the International Cruise Line Association (CLIA), which follows rules established by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
The Sun Princess is a 21-deck ship with 2,150 guest cabins. Currently docked in Italy, it is set to embark on its inaugural voyages, including cruises through the Mediterranean and Caribbean.
Notably, New York City is planning to change zoning regulations to facilitate the construction of new casinos.
