Macau is experiencing a surge in private jet arrivals, with reports indicating that the number of such flights is approaching 50% of pre-pandemic levels. Rita Tam, the general manager of local charter operator TAG Aviation Macau FBO, told Macau Daily that the number of passengers served by the company has sharply increased in the first two months of 2023. She noted that by the end of the year, the business jet market could recover to half of its 2019 volume, when Macau welcomed 2,768 private jet flights—an increase of 350% compared to the 781 flights recorded in 2007.
According to Tam, the rise in private jet travel is largely driven by operators in the gaming sector. Casinos are eager to bring in foreign visitors at no cost, actively expanding their customer base in the process.
Air travel to Macau has significantly improved since travel restrictions were lifted in January. Air Macau is reportedly registering around 7,000 international bookings per week, with that number increasing by approximately 20% each week. This month, air services are resuming on at least twelve routes, while the frequency of flights on eight existing routes is also being increased.
Most visitors come to Macau for travel and entertainment. Earlier this month, Sands China and MGM China Holdings reportedly opened gaming areas exclusively for foreign clients. This initiative could lead to a 5% increase in tax revenue in line with new government policies aimed at attracting overseas players following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions.
Meanwhile, Pragmatic Play and Swiss Casinos have announced a partnership.
