The Rank Group plans to increase the number of gaming machines following the reform of gambling laws in the United Kingdom
This expansion is prompted by the UK government's publication of a draft of new regulations. The revised gambling law will allow smaller casinos to install up to five machines for every table, an increase from the current limit of two slots.
Rank Group's CEO, John O'Reilly, described the initiative as a chance to enhance the customer experience, create jobs, and attract additional funding to regional venues. He stated that the company would accelerate its investment plans in response to the forthcoming changes.
The draft legislation also permits sports betting in land-based casinos in England and Wales. Rank Group has already begun discussions with Scottish authorities to extend these measures to its northern venues.
In addition to this reform package, further regulatory measures are planned. A new statutory levy will be introduced, imposing a tax of 0.5% on land-based operators and up to 1.1% on online platforms. The additional funds will be allocated to research and initiatives aimed at reducing gambling-related harm.
Rank's announcement came shortly after the release of its financial results for the third quarter of the 2025 fiscal year, which showed a 10.9% increase in net gaming revenue compared to 2024.
Notably, there will be no tax increases for the gambling industry in the UK.
