The Swedish regulator Spelinspektionen has published the results of the gambling sector, revealing that the total revenue for 2021 reached 26.02 billion Swedish kronor, marking a 5% increase compared to the previous year.
In a detailed analysis of operators' performance during the last quarter of 2021, the local regulator noted significant growth in the operations of land-based establishments. However, revenue from charitable lotteries fell by 9.4%, and bingo revenue decreased by 5%. On a positive note, restaurant casinos managed to close the reporting period with a 90.6% revenue increase.
Spelinspektionen highlighted that total revenue from online casinos amounted to 16.12 billion Swedish kronor, indicating a high level of user activity online. Nevertheless, gambling enthusiasts frequently visit land-based venues, contributing to a 5% increase in revenue from these establishments in 2021 compared to the previous year. This trend suggests that offline casinos may soon surpass online platforms in popularity, becoming the primary gaming destinations for residents of Sweden.
To stimulate the gambling market, government authorities have granted licenses to 95 companies, allowing them to operate in the Swedish market, with 65 of these companies authorized for online activities.
It is worth noting that Entain is showing signs of recovery, as the company increases its net profit through its online segment.
