The recently concluded Responsible Gambling Week 2022 yielded unexpected results. According to Michael Dugher, CEO of the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), representatives from the iGaming industry successfully captured the attention of casino users and enhanced their awareness of responsible gambling practices.
The organization is now reflecting on the campaign's impact on player behavior, particularly in terms of increasing awareness among social media users. The BGC reported that Responsible Gambling Week 2022 broke previous records, garnering nearly 30 million views on Twitter.
Dugher emphasized, "The campaign has once again raised awareness among vulnerable groups. We were able to showcase increasingly popular tools that enhance player safety, including time-outs and deposit limits, which are only available in the regulated sector."
This year marked the fifth consecutive Responsible Gambling Week, with the audience and scale of the campaign continuing to grow year after year.
In summarizing the event, the BGC referenced data released after the campaign's conclusion, which indicated a 21% increase in mentions of the initiative compared to 2021, when it was referenced 25 million times across major social media platforms.
Additionally, several high-profile figures, including well-known personalities from British sports such as Harry Redknapp and John Hartson, expressed their support for this year's campaign.
Dugher also stated that the industry's commitment to safer gambling extends "beyond just one week" and is a priority "every day of the year."
Such initiatives appear to be effective overall, at least in helping to mitigate gambling addiction.
