The Swedish gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, has issued nine new licenses to suppliers. Notably, starting July 1, 2023, obtaining such a license will be mandatory for companies wishing to operate in the country’s regulated market.
The newly approved providers include Everymatrix Software, ARLAND Gesellschaft für Informationstechnologie m.b.H., Hacksaw and its two subsidiaries—Hacksaw Operations and Hacksaw Studios—along with Yggdrasil, Relax Gaming, and Thunderkick. Earlier in March, three suppliers—SkillOnNet, SYNOT Games, and Norrköping AB—also received licenses.
Since March 1, 2023, Spelinspektionen has processed a total of 60 license applications. The application fee is set at 120,000 Swedish kronor (approximately $11,000). The introduction of B2B licensing requirements aims to steer consumers towards the regulated sector, effectively cutting off illegal operators from accessing available technologies.
Gustav Hoffstedt, Secretary General of the Swedish trade association Branscheförenigen för Onlinespel (BOS), stated in December: “I understand that there is generally a positive attitude towards B2B licenses from both the industry and Spelinspektionen. However, there may be a distorted expectation that this will significantly reduce the outflow from the Swedish licensing system.”
Spelinspektionen serves as the expert authority on gambling and lotteries in Sweden. The regulator is responsible for ensuring that the Swedish gaming market remains legal, safe, and reliable. It issues licenses for lottery operations and oversees the regulation and supervision of gambling and lotteries in Sweden. The agency operates under the oversight of the Ministry of Finance, with board members appointed by the government.
Meanwhile, those interested in purchasing land in Miami from gaming giant Genting Berhad are offering upwards of $1 billion.
