Chicago's first casino is set to open by the end of August at the historic Medinah Temple. Recently, Bally's signage has appeared at the River North site, indicating the company that will manage the establishment.
In an interview with a local publication, Bally's Chairman Soo Kim confirmed that the casino is ready to welcome guests. "We’ve done our part, and now it’s up to the regulatory authorities to ensure everything operates as they expect. Doors should be opening soon. It’s quite exciting," Kim stated.
The Medinah Temple is a historic building known for its stunning architecture. Chris Jewett, Bally's Director of Corporate Development, told the Chicago Tribune, "This is probably the most beautiful temporary casino you’ve ever seen. The wow factor will be there, even just walking inside. It’s unique."
In June, the Illinois Gaming Board determined that the operator's plan for the temporary casino had reached "preliminary suitability," allowing Bally's to move gaming equipment into the venue. The site still requires final regulatory approval before it can officially open. Last month, the operator also hosted a tour of the casino for local media.
The three-story building will feature 800 gaming machines and 56 table games. However, the gaming area, spanning 3,160 square feet, is one of the smallest among the 13 gambling establishments currently operating in Illinois.
The Medinah Temple casino will accommodate 3,500 guests and create approximately 700 jobs. It will operate 24/7 and is expected to remain open for three years while a permanent facility is constructed in River West. This project is anticipated to support 3,000 jobs and generate $55 million in tax revenue for Chicago.
Meanwhile, casino operator Delta Corp has reported a 19% increase in net profit.
