This week in Michigan was marked by two significant lottery wins. One state resident became an instant millionaire, winning $500,000 in a scratch-off lottery game, while another hit the jackpot with a $150,000 prize from the multi-stage Powerball draw.
Local lottery officials reported that the first winner is a 69-year-old man from Macomb County, who claimed his $500,000 prize from the game Spectacular Wild Time. Previously, he had only purchased $2 tickets but recently decided to try his luck with $5 tickets. That decision proved to be life-changing.
"When I scratched off the protective layer, I noticed a match with the number 6, but I first revealed the entire field. I was expecting to see $5 or $10, but when I uncovered the total amount, I saw one zero, then a second, and then a third. That’s when it hit me that I had won big!" the winner shared.
The lucky ticket was sold at Little Mack Beer & Wine in St. Clair Shores. In the current draw, there are still two unclaimed top prizes of $500,000, nine prizes of $25,000, and ten prizes of $2,500.
Another major win came for Michael Werner from Berrien County, who scored $150,000 in Powerball. This was only his second attempt at the lottery. His combination of four white balls and the correct Powerball tripled his standard payout of $50,000 thanks to the Power Play option.
Just days earlier, other significant wins were reported, including one participant who won $150,000 in Powerball and another who took home $482,000 in Fantasy 5.
In a related note, a Massachusetts resident accidentally won two major prizes by confusing the lottery dates.
