The Ukrainian Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (KRAIL) has officially announced its decision to issue two additional licenses for organizing and conducting online casino activities. This information was confirmed by the agency on its Telegram channel, along with the relevant documents signed by the head of the regulator, Ivan Rudyi, which are available on the agency's website.
The new license holders are two organizations: LLC "GameDev" and one of the leading online casino operators in the CIS, LLC "Parimatch." It has been reported that the licensees must remit payment for the licenses to the Ukrainian budget within 10 days of receiving notification of the regulator's decision, as stipulated by the country's gambling legislation. Upon confirmation of payment, the operators will receive permits to operate within the Ukrainian jurisdiction for a period of five years.
Notably, KRAIL issued its first official online casino license last week to LLC "SpaceX," which is the sole owner of the well-known Ukrainian gambling operator "Cosmolot."
Sergey Potapov, the general director of the organization, acknowledged that the issuance of the first license is a significant step in the development of Ukraine's gambling market. He emphasized the importance of this event, which he believes will demonstrate the openness and potential of the Ukrainian gambling sector to all interested parties and convince foreign companies of the viability of collaborating with the local regulator.
As a result of this decision, the state treasury has been replenished by 23.4 million hryvnias. However, according to the transitional provisions of the gambling legislation, this amount should have been 39 million hryvnias (equivalent to 6,500 minimum wage levels). KRAIL has not provided any explanations regarding this discrepancy.
It is worth noting that Ukraine intends to enforce strict controls over access to gambling activities.
