WebMoney Bans Transactions to Online Casinos
Under the new regulations, Russian electronic payment systems are prohibited from accepting, processing, and transferring funds to accounts of foreign companies that are not officially registered in Russia. This ban applies not only to illegal bookmakers but also to various gambling platforms, including online casinos.
It is noteworthy that back in December 2020, the Central Bank of Russia imposed an 11 million ruble fine on one electronic payment system following a series of inspections. Experts believe that the sanctions from Russian authorities were a response to the system's collaboration with illegal betting companies and online casinos.
A month later, a similar inspection was conducted at YuMoney (formerly Yandex.Money), which also faced restrictions on any transactions with offshore companies.
Additionally, it has been reported that starting April 27, the national payment system "MIR" will also be unable to process transactions intended for foreign financial agents that lack registration in Russia. Offshore gambling platforms will be included in this ban. The Central Bank has already sent out a corresponding technological bulletin to all other financial organizations in Russia.
It is important to note that holders of "MIR" cards will not be able to make payments to online casinos.
